Important

Even if you don’t plan to attend the reunion, please add your information to the family tree. The tree is for every descendant of Arthur and Roberta, whether or not you make it to Dallas.

Registering for the reunion does not add you to the tree — the tree is its own site. It takes a few minutes, and you only do it once.

Coming soon: the Arthur & Roberta Bowens 2027 Reunion in Dallas, June 11–13, 2027. The schedule and registration open soon — save the date.

Got family news? A graduation, a wedding, a new baby — send it to us and we’ll share it with everybody.

Where we come from. Arthur and Roberta are one branch of a much older tree that runs back to Scott and Tabby Devereux, born 1792 and 1787 in Columbia County, Georgia, and carried to Monte Verdi in Rusk County, Texas. See how the branches fit together.

We’re meeting up in East Texas for the Heritage Syrup Festival. Walk Henderson, the Rusk County seat, eat the food, and — for anyone who has never been and wants to go — visit Monte Verdi. This is the land our people came from. Some of us have never stood on it. Nothing on a screen tells you what it feels like to walk onto the ground where Scott and Tabby lived, and to know you came back.

We are going to meet the people of Rusk County at the annual festival — the museum staff, the historical commission volunteers, the county folks, the families who have kept this history alive out here for decades. Somewhere in those ten blocks are the people who will care about Monte Verdi as much as we do. We intend to find them, shake their hands, and start the conversation in person rather than over a phone line.

The Heritage Syrup Festival is the only folk life festival in East Texas and draws tens of thousands of people. They cook ribbon cane syrup on a mule-powered press at the Depot Museum, the way it was done here for generations. Blacksmithing, quilting, rope and basket making, antique tractors, two music stages, classic cars around the courthouse, and more than 250 craft and food booths across the downtown historic district.

Why Henderson. It is the county seat of Rusk County — the same county Monte Verdi sits in, about 25 miles up the road at Cushing (Glenfawn). Rusk County was named the official Syrup Capital of Texas by the Legislature in 2025.

Where we’re staying: Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Jacksonville, Texas.

Interested in going? Let Tracie know at treed@bowensfamilyportal.com so we can plan the trip and arrange the Monte Verdi visit. If you know anyone in Rusk, Cherokee or Anderson County, bring them.
